Will Aimson: Proud of Wigan's Defensive Dominance but Eyeing More Wins
Wigan's defender Will Aimson reflects on the club's strong defensive record this season and the importance of turning clean sheets into wins. With their strong defence, fans will be looking for football betting tips on Wigan's chances in upcoming matches.

Defender Will Aimson is proud to be part of Wigan Athletic's mean machine.
The Latics boast one of the most impregnable defences in the Football League.
Shaun Maloney’s watertight side have gone over 650 minutes without conceding and have let in just five league goals all season.
Wigan’s Defensive Wall: A Streak to Be Proud Of
Only Premier League leaders Liverpool (two), Championship sides Sheffield United (three) and Burnley (four) have shipped less this term.
“It’s been incredible really,” admitted Aimson, who was nominated for September’s League One Player of the Month award.
“I say it to the boys in the changing room that if we’re not going to win the other team better be coming off the pitch in pieces,” he told SportsBoom.com.
“With the clean sheets, what we’re showing is the bare minimum. We’ve set the bar and set the standard for what’s required.”
“As defenders we get the limelight, well the keeper does first and foremost. But it’s a real team effort, everyone’s geared in.”
It’s cliche, the secret is hard work. We had a big turnover in the summer, a lot of players in which I was one of, so we did a lot of hard work and everything’s coming to fruition a bit now.

Building Bonds: Aimson and Kerr’s Partnership on and off the Field
Aimson was also famously part of the Bolton side which kept an impressive eight clean sheets in 10 games during the 2022/23 season.
Jack Iredale and Eoin Toal were his partners in crime during that solid spell and Aimson has forged another unbreakable bond with Jason Kerr, who was part of the Wigan side which got promoted in 2022.
As two of the elder players in the Latics’ dressing room, Aimson and Kerr have built their comradeship with regular darts matches at the club’s training base.
“With me and Jason [Kerr] we’ve got real experience in that stem of the team, and I think that's important,” added 30-year-old Aimson.
“Sometimes you can be a part of a defensive line where you don’t have trust in the players around you, but I’ve got that here one hundred per cent.”
“We’ve been socialising a lot, we’re the same age…he’s a couple of years younger but the squads mainly made up of young players so we’re the old ones!”
“We’ve been playing a lot of darts at the training ground. I was winning a lot at the start of the season, but he’s got better from playing with me! So, it’s a lot more even now.”
He’s a brilliant player to play alongside and so are the other lads in the defence.

Competition for Places Driving the Team Forward
“It’s been really quick gelling with Jason, but also with Chambo as well [Luke Chambers] on my side we’ve got that relationship as well. He’s a really talented young player.”
“There’s some real competition for places and that keeps you on your toes.”
“No-one wants to be the one to make the mistake which breaks that streak!”
Lack of Goals: The Missing Piece for Wigan’s Dominance
The only disappointment for the Latics is a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.
Maloney’s outfit have scored just three times in their last five league games, with a convincing 3-0 win over Peterborough.
“It might take us conceding to win a game!” Quipped Aimson.
“I believe the goals will start to come. We’ve got the foundation there; we’ve just got to turn those draws into wins now.”
